Our First Annual Donation: Supporting the Nature Conservancy of Canada

Protecting natural spaces is more urgent than ever. As environmental pressures continue to grow, supporting organizations that actively conserve Canada’s landscapes has never been more important. This year, we were proud to make our first annual donation to the Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) — a national leader in land conservation.

Below, we’re sharing why we chose NCC, how their work aligns with our mission at Tidal and Timber, and how this donation will help protect Canada’s natural spaces.

Why We Chose the Nature Conservancy of Canada

The Nature Conservancy of Canada is one of the country’s largest and most effective land conservation organizations. Their mission is simple and powerful: to protect ecologically significant lands and waters for the benefit of nature and people.

Working across all provinces and territories, NCC safeguards habitats that support wildlife, clean water, and healthy ecosystems. Their science-based and collaborative approach ensures that conservation efforts are thoughtful, strategic, and long-lasting.

NCC’s work includes:

  • Protecting threatened landscapes through land acquisition

  • Restoring damaged ecosystems to support biodiversity

  • Partnering with Indigenous communities, local organizations, and governments

  • Using science-driven research to guide conservation decisions

This wide-reaching and impactful work made NCC a natural choice for our first annual donation. Their projects span forests, wetlands, grasslands, and coastal areas — reflecting the diversity of the landscapes that inspire our work.

How the Donation Will Be Used

When making this donation, we chose to give to NCC’s area of greatest need across Canada. This flexible approach allows NCC to respond quickly to urgent conservation opportunities as they arise.

Funds may be used to:

  • Secure land at risk of development

  • Restore native plant communities and wildlife habitats

  • Support community-led and Indigenous-led conservation initiatives

  • Monitor ecosystems and conduct research to ensure long-term protection

By directing our donation where it is most needed, we’re helping NCC act efficiently and decisively — maximizing the impact of every dollar.

How This Donation Reflects Our Mission

At Tidal and Timber Studio, conservation, sustainability, and respect for the natural world are at the heart of everything we do. My work is deeply inspired by the landscapes, species, and ecosystems that surround us, and I believe in protecting them for future generations.

Healthy natural spaces provide essential benefits, including:

  • Clean air and water

  • Habitat for wildlife

  • Climate regulation

  • Spaces for recreation, reflection, and inspiration

Supporting NCC is one way we can give back to the natural world that continually inspires our art and brings benefits to our communities. This donation represents more than a single contribution — it’s a commitment to long-term environmental stewardship.

Why Supporting Conservation Matters

Across Canada, natural spaces face increasing pressures from development, resource extraction, and climate change. Conservation organizations like NCC play a crucial role in protecting ecosystems while balancing human needs.

Supporting this work helps to:

  • Prevent habitat loss and species decline

  • Protect ecosystem services communities rely on

  • Build resilience against climate change

  • Strengthen connections between people and nature

Our first annual donation may be small, but my hope is that it is a meaningful step toward ensuring these landscapes remain intact and thriving.

How You Can Help Protect Natural Spaces

If this resonates with you, there are many ways to support conservation efforts:

  • Donate to organizations working to protect land and wildlife

  • Volunteer with local restoration or stewardship projects

  • Advocate for policies that prioritize environmental protection

  • Practice sustainable habits in your daily life

Every action matters. Together, we can help preserve Canada’s natural heritage — now and for generations to come.
